I did not install any restricted extras or anything at this point either. leaving them on your desktop uninstalled, boot into Safe Mode and run Driver Cleaner Pro with ALL the NVIDIA options selected.. If you were using *buntu10.04 you may not have had any problems..

From 7.04 to 9.04 I had no problems with video drivers, but massive seemingly insuperable ones since.
