I am in the happy Medium of the geek world. Does the IDE cable that connects to the hard drives have different coloured connectors? This may sound trivial, but beware, even as a "Slave" it could infect the new system. I was loading video to it and I believe that I put more data than I had memory.

The left cable is a SATA cable, and the right is an IDE cable. Each manufacturer has different jumper settings, so I can't give you exact instructions here. The fresh install will clean up all the broken registry entries, broken links, and probably speed up boot time, shut down, and general responsiveness of the system.
