After a few tests with Dell support the problem was determined to be the hardware. Why blame the Australians? Cleaning the drive, or simply re-inserting the disc helped at first, but it continually got worse, until the Lite-On drive would only play brand new CD's.Currently it won't play new discs Now i've noticed that when I have my computer up and I click on my E:\ drive rather then popping up with " please insert a cd into drive E:\" and I tried software disks, all driver disks that came with the hardware on my computer and they work. The CD drives will not read CD's unless I boot the computer up with the disc in the drive already. When I went back in to rip another DVD the program would not recognize the disk. I know it's working, because I can still play games that require a CD, but I can't burn cds, play music, or watch DVDs *sigh* Sofia November 23, 2008 | Huzzah! I had also checked the driver it is showing all normal. It tells me my driver is up to date and working properly.
Hope this helps!! Isn't there any application to know the exact problem with the DVD Drive as the drive is functioning instead of shooting blind shots? When I put in the disc the drive will make the noises like its trying to read it for a long time. iTunes is fine now; but, can't view DVD's.
